About Cindy
Artist Statement:
I photograph what I experience, both visual and visceral - focusing on the story, mood and spirit of the wild place or creature… themes that reflect the rhythm and harmony of the land and its inhabitants.
Intact wilderness and wild places continue to disappear from a myriad of causes and reasons, most of which are neither compelling nor sound. My photographs are the confluence of a devotion to all things wild and the grief with which I see it fading irretrievably away.
Yellowstone: sacred, beautiful, mysterious, harsh, unpredictable. A land alive with predators and prey, fire and falls, renewal and redemption, struggle and songs. Today, Yellowstone is faced with several pivotal and polarizing issues including: Wolves, reintroduction and delisting; Bison, brucellosis and unenlightened management; and, the continuing uproar of snowmobiles and winter use.
My challenge is to create images that convey the cultural value of wilderness and inspire others to humbly preserve and protect wild places and the land we all share.
Yellowstone, An Exaltation of Wonders, is a series of images I began in 2006 that reflect my passion and concern for the future of the first National Park.
Biography:
Born with an apparent love of wildlife and wild places, Cindy left San Diego and her beloved ocean in 1999, opting for Montana. An enthusiastic hiker, backpacker and backcountry skier, she began her photographic career in 2005 and in 2008 began a mentorship with “the Yellowstone Photographer,” Tom Murphy. “ I want my work to make a difference and to be the best, so I sought out the best nature photographer, Tom Murphy, to learn from.”
Her work is currently displayed in Infrared the Art Gallery, www.sbonisphotography.com and at Hodges Fine Art and is in several private collections. |
